DAY 01: ARRIVE AT LEH.
Arrive in Leh landing at Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport, Leh, one of the highest operating airports in the world at 3500 mtr. above sea level. On a clear day one can see the distant peaks of K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum, while on the other side, the peaks of Nun Kun in Zanskar valley. On arrival, you will be received by our representative who will accompany you to the hotel and assist in the check in. The day is dedicated to rest and leisure so as to ensure that the body acclimatizes. Evening will include visit to Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa & Leh Market. Overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 02: LEH – EXCURSION TO SHAM VALLEY
The day starts with breakfast, following which the drive to Sham Valley starts, driving downstream along the River Indus on Leh–Kargil Highway. We will visit Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, nestled deep in the Himalayas. Another 4 kilometers away, we will reach the Magnetic Hill, which defies the law of gravity. Next we will drive through the picturesque landscape and reach the Confluence Of The Indus And Zanskar River. Taking the road before Saspul we visit the Likir Monastery, one of the most active monasteries in the region. While driving up to the monastery, we will see the recently installed colossal gilded image of the Maitreya. This set in the backdrop of the stark mountains, is one of the most spectacular sights in Ladakh.
After visiting the Monastery, we continue driving along the River Indus to Uletokpo and Tingmosgang; enroute visiting Ridzong Monastery. There is an option to walk up to the Monastery for those that wish to do so. Hidden at the end of a steep valley, the first view of the Monastery will surprise and hypnotise. The day ends with us setting camp or hotel for the overnight stay.
DAY 03: SHAM VALLEY TO LEH VIA LAMAYURU (180 KMS/05–06 HOURS)
Post breakfast, we hit the roads first visiting the Moon Landscape, where the formations are similar to those on the moon. Nestled in the formations is the 11th Century Lamayuru Monastery, the oldest and the largest existing Gompa in Ladakh. We then depart for Leh enroute which we visit the Alchi Gompa. The complex of temples located within the village is the most celebrated of Ladakh’s monasteries and dates back to the 11th century. The day ends with arrival in Leh and we stay overnight in the city.
DAY 04: LEH–NUBRA VALLEY VIA KHARDUNG LA 18,380 FT. (120 KMS 4-5 HOURS)
After breakfast, we start the drive to Nubra Valley. The journey from Leh to Nubra Valley passes over Khardung La (highest motorable road in the world- at 5,602 Mtrs). From the pass, one can see across the Indus valley to seemingly endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range at the south and to the north, the giants of the Saser massif. Nubra Valley, popularly known as Ldumra or the valley of flowers resides at an altitude of 10,000 feet. Upon arrival in Nubra we check into the camps in Hunder for overnight stay. In the evening you can walk around the villages and soak in the culture that is unique to this corner of the world. A visit to a Ladakhi home can also be arranged.
DAY 05: NUBRA VALLEY – LEH (120 KMS/ 4–5 HOURS)
Post an early breakfast, we check out. Drive to Hunder, where you can ride on a bactrian (double-humped) camel amidst the sand dunes of this high altitude desert. What makes the experience more marvelous is that you can enjoy the experience of the deserts while the snow-capped mountains beckon from the horizon. Once in Diskit, which is the headquarter town of Nubra Valley, you can explore the old Bazaar. The town is also famous for 515 years old Buddhist Monastery, perched on a hilltop over-seeing the entire Valley. Later we drive back to Leh via Khardung La Top. On arrival at Leh you will check in and you can rest and relax. In the evening you are free to stroll around the market place for some souvenir shopping.
DAY 06: LEH TO PANGONG LAKE – 13,930 FT. (160 KMS/ 4-5 HOURS)
The day starts early, where after breakfast we leave immediately for Pangong Lake. We then drive on for 2 hours to the Chang La Pass which at 17, 586 feet is the third highest motorable road in the world where we stop for a short period for photography. Next we drive to Tangtse where we relax with a cup of tea/coffee. We then drive on to Pangong traveling through small villages including Changthang, reaching the lake which resides at the altitude of 13, 930 feet. Overnight camping by the side of the lake.
DAY 07: PANGONG LAKE TO LEH (180 KMS/5-7 HOURS)
Day starts at the shore of Pangong Lake where at leisure you can explore the area. We then drive back to Leh, while stopping at the Hemis Monastery for a quick visit. Hemis is the largest monastic foundation of Drukpa Kagyut Order of Tibetan Buddhism. The day ends in Leh where we check back in the hotel for the overnight stay. The evening is free for you to enjoy in the mountain city.
DAY 08: DEPARTURE FROM LEH (FLY OUT).
After early morning breakfast, we drop you off to Domestic Airport to catch the flight for your onward Destination, with memories that will last a lifetime
